Custom millinery process

Dandy Bespoke headdress specializes in custom headwear. Below you can see inside the millinery process and see the stages of design that an order goes through.

Initial Consultation

A designer meets with the client 1-on-1 to discuss their specific needs.

Setting the Frame

The base form is steamed and stretched to fit the client’s measurements. Steam allows the material, often luxurious Beaver Felt, to be formed like clay.

Forming the Shape

Every hat has a specific shape, and during this stage, the hat’s finished form begins to take shape.

Refining the Details

The edges are trimmed in and the interior materials are added. Silk is often used in the top and leather bands are fitted around the interior of the brim for a fit that feels just right.

Final Flourishes

The fine details that make each hat a custom piece of artwork are added. These details can be all kinds of things, from additional items, patterns, textures, etc.
